Google Adsense is the most popular and effective contextual program for generating income in the web arena. And as wordpress is arguably the most used and free and best blogging platform, there are plenty of plugins available for integrating Adsense ads into blogger. With so many choices, it becomes rather difficult to choose the right one for your needs as each plugin has its share of good and bad points. So, here I am writing a review on the leading Adsense plugins for Wordpress, so that you can make the right decision easily and don't have to waste valuable time trying each one out.
Easy Adsenser 2.25- This is the plugin I am using on this blog. In my view this is the best WP Adsense plugin. The good- Easy Adsenser supports 3 Ad Units in pages along with a option for sidebar Ad Unit. There is an option that lets you to make the sidebar Ad unit compulsory. You can deactivate any of the 3 units at any time. It also supports a search bar and upto 3 link units on the sidebar. For posts also the configurations are same. You also have the ability to remove Ads on specified pages by inserting a code in the HTML of the post or defining a custom field. The position and availability of ads on each post are customizable by adding simple custom fields. Default positions can be set from settings page and work well. Supports WP 2.7.1.
The bad- There is no auto generation of code which is slightly demoralizing for lazy webmasters. But in a way, this is good as you can customize the ads better from Adsense account. It also means that you can have the 3 Ads in different looks and not stuck with same ad. But the link units are struck with same look for all the 3 units. Also there is no option for footer link units but you can achieve that by using link unit code in the box specified for the 3rd Ad unit. It won't be a footer though but will come at end of post.
AllinOneAdsenseandYPN 1.82- This is another plugin which supports Adsensea and YPN. Ideal for those who use more that just Adsense. The good- All you need is give the pub id and codes are generated automatically on the basis of look you choose. It gives you the ability to not show ads, specify start point and end point by the means of simple code in HTML of post. A great feature is the ability to randomize the position of ads to lessen ad blindness though you can have though you can always choose absolute positions. Numbers of ads in each page is customizable. It can easily randomize ads of Adsense and YPN making this good for multi Ad agency users. Gives option to exclude ads on home page, archives etc. Has the option to stop showing ads to admin or have ad test on code inserted during testing of ads. Supports 2.7.1 The bad- This plugin lacks a few of the less used Ad blocks and there is no way to have different look on different ads with respect to color. Sizes are randomized though between the options you choose. Also this one lacks link units, search boxes and sidebar Ads.
Adsense Injection 2.0- This a very simple plugin for wordpress and does decent work. The good- This one has the ability to randomize ads on basis of size as well as color unlike the previous one. Supports removal of ads on specified page by simple code on post HTML. Also lets you show ads below or above specified point by codes in post HTML. Ability to exclude home, archive, static pages. Does randomize Adsense and YPN ads. The bad- In some ways it is very basic and does not fulfill all the needs of bloggers. It does not have link units, search bars, sidebar ads. I also had problems as it did not let specify absolute position but always randomized finding break tags in the post. I also saw problem on the plugin page on on makers website that it was not being validated as strict XHTML but I don't know if it has been sorted out. I only recommend this to users who don't want to get into customization and believe simple is good.
Adsense Manager 3.2.13- This is plugin which supports a wide range of Ads agencies and is also decent with Adsense. The good- This one now supports AdSense, AdBrite, AdGridWork, Adpinion, Adroll, Commission Junction, CrispAds, ShoppingAds, Yahoo!PN and WidgetBucks. So, if you run ads of may agencies then this is for you. Sidebar and positioning with widgets are supported. The bad- Positioning of ads is a bit complicated. Creating and importing ads takes longer compared to other alternatives in my opinion.
